Approaches to establishing, developing and supporting teacher professional competencies

This chapter examines the role of teacher professional standards, and professional practice in the development of professional educators. Professional standards provide a benchmark of what educators should do in their work. These standards provide guidance to initial teacher education courses, and to teachers’ professional development, which should be focused on the teachers work.
