In 1995, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) introduced the Rural Development Scheme. The Scheme was developed by converting the microcredit program into an Islamic microfinance program for the rural poor. Later in 2012, IBBL launched the Urban Poor Development Scheme targeting the urban poor to reduce both rural and urban poverty through employment generation and other income-generating activities.
