This chapter dives into the deep decarbonization analysis done in the U.S. In particular, this analysis asked: What would it take for the U.S. to achieve an 80 percent greenhouse gas emission reduction below the 1990 level by the year 2050; is it technically feasible; what would it cost; what physical changes are required; and what are the policy implications for the U.S.? Various scenarios pertaining to the pathways model are detailed.
