Conflict Resources and Pillage

This chapter examines how extraction and trade in natural resources can fuel and finance armed conflict. It uses several cases – from the Cold War to the present-day Democratic Republic of Congo – to illustrate how armed groups are increasingly exploiting resources to their advantage and prolonging insecurity.
