This chapter details the role of domestic political systems in natural resources and how these systems are affected by resource wealth. It describes the resource curse, or the characteristic of a region abundant in natural resources that is also less developed, with less democracy, and worse development outcomes. What political attributes determine a country's vulnerability to the resource curse? This chapter also reflects on the influence of domestic political dynamics on policy choices.
