This chapter discusses how the knowledge and practices related to living heritage can contribute to biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and enhancing environmental sustainability. Learners explore how, on the one hand, living heritage can be directly threatened by natural disasters; and how, on the other hand, locally-rooted knowledge and practices provide a source of resilience against changing climate conditions and help protect biodiversity. How communities’ knowledge and practices concerning nature can contribute to reducing the risks related to natural disasters, reconstruct when necessary and adapt to climate change is analysed. How can living heritage strengthen community-based resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change and natural disasters? How can living heritage help communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters or climate change emergencies?
