Our planet started as an inanimate, iron-rich rock with a hot, radioactive core that cooled over billions of years. Life originated at hydrothermal vents billions of years ago, and photosynthesis released oxygen and changed the chemistry of the ocean and atmosphere in the oxygenation event. The earth is full of substances for human use, but human interference has detrimental impact on the ecosystem, causing extinction, climate change, and habitat loss. We must have more sustainable behavior and better governance before we alter our environment irreparably.
