Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a thermal process that converts waste biomass into energy and materials. It is termed a carbon negative process because it is green and does not contribute to carbon dioxide emissions. HTL has been successfully developed to plant-scale and has the potential to convert sewage sludge solids to some 41 million barrels of renewable fuels.
In this video, Temitope Damilotun Soneye from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University elaborates on how the integration of nanomaterials in this thermal treatment of water provides a pathway to sustainability and reuse.
