Today we will discuss the effects of what economists call "exogenous shocks," or shocks external to our systems of economy and society on the lives of poor people. We will examine the ways exogenous shocks hurt or help the fight against poverty and their impact on levels of inequality. We will look specifically at the example of the COVID-19 pandemic and emerging evidence of its links with poverty and inequality.
