In this video, Guy Ryder, UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy and former ILO Director-General, talks about how everyone has a right to social security and this right is firmly enshrined in the international rights framework and therefore inalienable to all human beings, regardless of where they live or who they are. He also highlights how Social protection is a cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as reflected in target 1.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on “social protection systems and measures for all, including floors”. It also contributes to many other SDGs, including on gender equality and decent work.
