Valuing Ocean Assets

International large research projects have focused on the valuation of natural assets and services. Since the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, the idea of ecosystem services has become prominent in the scientific literature. Later, there has been the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity project, the TEEB project again, valuation plays a big role there. That’s often about the valuation of ecosystem services. But if you think about sustainability in the use of the oceans, then what plays an important role is the ocean's natural capital.
