There are various data approaches and technologies that can help increase equity and reduce disparities. At the national level, most countries have national database or system, with the most common one being the Education Monitoring and Information System (EMIS). Disaggregating data (by gender, wealth, disability, ethnicity, language etc.) is key to ensuring that these systems capture information on the most vulnerable. Indexes, rankings and indicators that focus on equity help create a certain type of criteria or requirement, and can motivate countries, regions and districts to strive to be more equitable. Databases focused on equity can also help to capture “missing learners” by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to locate them. Innovations are making it possible to bring connectivity to remote areas so that they can access distance learning online.
