This video considers how teachers play a critical role in education leadership.
Teachers or instructors facilitate the actions of education. Teachers provide leadership to students through their acts of teaching.
Government policies and resources give direction and support to teachers and schools.
The school principal or the head of the education institute plays a critical role in setting up the culture and processes for leadership. While some of these things will be attached to formal leadership roles, research, and the examples we have considered highlight the importance of shared and distributed leadership across educational institutions.
Good policies at the government level, overarching leadership, and an inclusive leadership culture at the institutional level are essential. However, typically it is the individual teacher that makes the difference. Often successful teachers will take on leadership initiatives rather than just working with the government or institutional agendas.
