Why climate matters for poverty and inequality

Why are we so focused on climate now? First, the world is eating up very rapidly the carbon budget that we have in order to limit global warming to levels that we can afford. And second, climate change is already beginning to have very, very serious impacts across the world. This was highlighted in the 2018 IPCC report, the Special Report on Global Warming, and that played a key role in the shift of understanding and public opinion, highlighting the already evident impacts of climate change, and making very clear that the difference between 1.5 degrees and 2 degrees was really significant in terms of the impact of climate change.
